Addiction is a complicated experience that affects both the mind and body. Recovery is possible with the right motivation, support, and treatment.
Addiction & Recovery
At Resilience Therapy, we understand that each individual's recovery journey is unique.
“Resilience: Your key to thriving, not just surviving”
Resilience Therapy: Where compassionate care meets transformative results.
We acknowledge that there’s a spectrum that ranges from substance misuse to substance abuse and addiction. We provide compassionate, evidence-based care to help grow and better your relationship with substances. We believe that regardless of severity, we can work together towards you building a fulfilling life in recovery.
Studies indicate that approximately half of individuals who battle addictions concurrently struggle with co-occurring mental health diagnoses (1,2). Oftentimes, substances are used as a form of self-medicating from life stressors and mental health diagnoses that one may experience. Addressing either issue can help in overcoming the other.
Guiding your journey to mental wellness
We always consider your personal goals and values while offering the appropriate amount of challenge to promote a healthier relationship with yourself and substances. We support our clients in exploring various recovery programs - such as 12-step or SMART Recovery - and can also help determine if intensive treatment should be explored. The therapists at Resilience Therapy work collaboratively with treatment teams to offer continued support while in treatment and upon return, as you navigate your journey through recovery.
During recovery, individuals may experience increased symptoms of anxiety, depression, or other mental health struggles. However, with perseverance, effective coping strategies, and an encouraging therapist, one can emerge from the experience with increased mental fortitude and well-being.
Do I Have An Addiction?
Addiction is a chronic, relapsing disorder characterized by compulsive drug and/or alcohol seeking and use, despite harmful consequences. Addiction can also present with food, sex, and gambling. Some common signs of addiction, rather than occasional substance misuse, include:
Intense cravings for the substance
Neglecting responsibilities at work, school, or home
Continuing to use the substance despite physical, emotional, and/or psychological harm
Developing “tolerance” (needing more of the substance to achieve the desired effect)
Experiencing withdrawal symptoms when attempting to stop using the substance (like headaches or shakiness)
Navigating the path to healing, together
